Giving back to the community and working with children are two things we absolutely love here at Relative Foods. So, when the opportunity arose to combine both passions in an incredibly special event, we were an immediate yes! Teaming up with Kids Food Basket and Amazon, our goal was clear: to work with a group of enthusiastic 6th graders, teaching them about healthy food choices and equipping them with valuable skills in the kitchen.
The day unfolded with a sense of excitement and purpose as we entered the Kids Food Basket venue and test kitchen. This team is renowned for their commitment to supporting children in need by packing 50,000 lunches every week, and they provided the perfect backdrop for our event. We were inspired by their dedication to nurturing young bodies and minds, and we felt honored to stand alongside such an organization.
Our culinary adventure was led by the talented Chef Bryan Nader, a master of his craft and a true beacon of enthusiasm. Under his expert guidance, we embarked on a mission to teach these kids about healthy food and to equip them with essential kitchen skills. Together, we dove into a world of measuring, mixing, and baking delicious muffins from scratch. The kitchen quickly transformed into a place of creativity, laughter, and shared learning experiences.
Of course, none of this would have been possible without the invaluable support of our partner, Amazon. As a champion for small businesses like ours, Amazon played a vital role in bringing together all the necessary elements to make this day a resounding success. We are incredibly grateful for their commitment to empowering local communities and for their role in making this event possible.
For our part, we donated the dry goods needed to create the amazing muffins. But this day was about so much more than just baking—it was about empowering students, teaching them the importance of making healthy choices, and equipping them with valuable skills they could carry with them throughout their lives.
As we stood side by side with the 6th graders, we witnessed their eyes light up with excitement as they measured ingredients, mixed with enthusiasm, and zestfully grated oranges. Guiding and assisting them in the kitchen was so much fun for our co-founders Meggan and John. We shared valuable conversations about the importance of nutritious foods, the joy of cooking, and the skills they were acquiring along the way.
"It's important for kids to have experiences like this," Meggan shared. "To immerse themselves in the world of cooking, to learn about healthy food choices, and to gain valuable skills—it sets them up for a lifetime of making informed decisions and nourishing their bodies."
At the end of the day the kids proudly presented their creations and we couldn't help but feel a profound sense of fulfillment. We knew that the impact of this event extended beyond making muffins—they had gained knowledge, confidence, and a new perspective on healthy eating.
We're beyond appreciative of Kids Food Basket, Chef Bryan Nader, Amazon, and our incredible community. Days like these serve as a reminder of the remarkable power of community, compassion, and the joy of making a difference. We feel humbled and honored to be part of a community that supports us and shares our passion for giving back. As we continue on our culinary journey, we are inspired to keep spreading joy, one delicious creation at a time.
